New Documents Confirm: It’s Time to Stop Trusting Fauci

Dr. Anthony Fauci is in big trouble – or not, because he has been so idolized by the media and Democrat politicians that he can apparently get away with saying anything, even if it contradicts something he said or wrote in an email months earlier, and even if federal documents prove he withheld information from Congress. Despite the fact that his views on the efficacy of face masks have mutated faster and more often than COVID-19 itself, Fauci is considered infallible by those who have suspended critical thinking in the cause of a political agenda.

New Banner Covid Affairs

A trove of new documents released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) may confirm that the good doctor has, to put it mildly, not been upfront with Congress or the American people regarding his involvement with the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).

Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has already had a couple of high-profile dust-ups with Fauci over the origins of COVID-19, Chinese culpability – whether accidental or intentional – and the doctor’s knowledge of U.S. funding for the Wuhan lab, widely believed to be Ground Zero for the global pandemic.

Fauci Exposed

The Intercept was able to obtain more than 900 pages of documents that described how U.S.-based EcoHealth Alliance provided federal grant money to fund coronavirus research at the Wuhan lab. The incriminating papers were handed over by the National Institutes of Health.

Additionally, the material obtained by The Intercept includes grant proposals – previously unpublished – that were funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a body headed by Fauci. During congressional testimony, Fauci vehemently denied that the NIH funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab.

Richard Ebright, a molecular biologist at Rutgers University, published a detailed Twitter thread on Sept. 6 describing some of the cardinal points revealed in the NIH documents. Among other things, Ebright wrote:

“The materials show that the 2014 and 2019 NIH grants to EcoHealth with subcontracts to WIV funded gain-of-function research as defined in federal policies in effect in 2014-2017 and potential pandemic pathogen enhancement as defined in federal policies in effect 2017-present.”

The possibility that Fauci was unaware of what the Wuhan lab was doing with the money it got from EcoHealth is incredibly slim. His previous assertions before Congress that NIH had not funded the Wuhan lab’s gain-of-function research can only be explained by a grand conspiracy involving EcoHealth, the Chinese lab, and NIH to keep Fauci in the dark. If there was no such conspiracy, then the doctor lied to Congress. As Ebright wrote:

“The documents make it clear that assertions by the NIH Director, Francis Collins, and the NIAID Director, Anthony Fauci, that the NIH did not support gain-of-function research or potential pandemic pathogen enhancement at WIV are untruthful.”

Senator Paul may have put it better, though, in a Sept. 7 tweet, when he wrote, “Surprise surprise – Fauci lied again. And I was right about his agency funding novel Coronavirus research at Wuhan.”
