The governor of California, already in the fight of his political career, now faces the ugliness of accusations his wife was a message courier between Harvey Weinstein’s attorney and the disgraced movie mogul’s most vocal adversary, Rose McGowan. On Sunday, Sept. 12, McGowan and gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder held a presser to bring to light the character of the Newsom clan.
Ms. McGowan alleges Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of Governor Gavin Newsom, tried to persuade her to drop all public airing of Harvey Weinstein’s dirty laundry. If memories are short: Uncle Harvey went to the big house for 23 years after a 2020 conviction in New York for sexual assault and rape. He is still wanted in California for the same. Accusers have continued to come forward in solidarity. But before Weinstein went down hard for his crimes, McGowan recalls a sordid issue with the Newsom bunch.
If the actress is on the up and up, Mrs. Newsom sent several emails and had attempted phone calls with Rose on behalf of Mr. Weinstein’s law firm Boies Schiller Flexner. As Rose took to the pulpit, she explained how Jennifer called and asked, “What can Boies Schiller do to make you happy?” That’s not creepy or threatening in the least. Or maybe it was so creepy that there has been an exodus of dozens of attorneys from the practice over Weinstein.
McGowan continued the presser by slamming Jennifer Newsom for allegedly inferring that “she was a Weinstein rape victim to get into this private group of Weinstein rape victims.” The salacious plot thickens. Winding about, she brought up Newsom’s brother-in-law and chided the entire family about the man’s domestic violence arrest. “These are your leaders. These are who you vote for,” she told the audience. None of McGowan’s righteous anger can be traced to Gavin Newsom. However, as grandma will tell you, birds of a feather flock – or worse – together.
For instance, The Washington Free Beacon dug around and found financial disclosures: Gov. Newsom did happily take expensive bottles of wine from Weinstein’s law firm. Way back in 2017, when the news of Weinstein’s heinous acts was made public, it was reported that the firm tried to dig up dirt on Weinstein’s accusers, including McGowan. Newsom got his fancy wine about six weeks after the law firm’s antics came to light.
Larry Elder’s Role
As a segue to introduce Larry Elder, Rose explained her departure as a registered Democrat: “I finally came to a point where I am not a Democrat, because everyone who has harassed, stalked, and stolen from me in my time in Hollywood has been a Democrat.” And then endorsed Mr. Elder with a finger point, “I believe in this man because I know his mind.”
Elder did not miss a beat as he railed against the activist media and reporting double standards:
“I don’t know if it’s true … but if that allegation were made about my significant other … it would be all over the place … the mainstream media doesn’t give a damn.”
Just last week, a seemingly racist, deranged white woman wearing a gorilla mask threw eggs at the black Republican candidate. But, unless you use social media, it was probably missed: The horrid assault barely registered on cable and network news.
But, back to the news of an alleged plot by Boies to enlist Newsom’s wife to buy off McGowen. If Rose has proof – as she claims – there will be a ripple effect, whether Mrs. Newsom’s husband survives the California recall or Larry Elder finds McGowan to be the Hail Mary of all last-minute surprises.
