California Supreme Court Justice Steps Down for Cushy Swamp Post

A California Supreme Court associate justice is resigning so he can replace the head of a Washington, D.C. Swamp think tank who has just been nominated to be President Joe Biden’s CIA director. The think tank is financially sponsored by all the usual moneyed progressive globalist philanthropies. Big Tech behemoth Facebook has given it over $1 million in the last year alone.

If you think the judicial system is going to save regular citizens from unconstitutional power grabs by our ruling government officials, perhaps you should give this a read.

Blue and Green

Justice Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar will replace William J. Burns at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, an exceedingly well-heeled Washington foreign policy think tank. Cuéllar has served on the California High Court since January 2015, having been appointed by progressive Democrat, Gov. Jerry Brown. Before that, he worked in the Obama and Clinton administrations. His official California Supreme Court bio reveals how politically loaded his work was inside the Obama White House:

“In the Obama administration, Justice Cuéllar led the White House Domestic Policy Council’s teams responsible for civil and criminal justice, public health, and immigration, as well as its efforts to repeal the military’s Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell policy and enact bipartisan public health, food safety, and sentencing reform legislation (2009-2010). He also led the Presidential Transition Task Force on Immigration (2008-2009).”

While Cuéllar’s firmly partisan blue standing should not come as a major surprise in California, what should be thoroughly alarming is the fact that a Supreme Court justice for one of the largest and most influential states in the nation is stepping down for a cozy Swamp perch in the same way that a veteran member of Congress cashes in on the K Street lobbyist trail.

Carnegie undoubtedly pursued Cuéllar while he still served on the Court. A look at the Carnegie Endowment’s funding shows significant players in the moneyed globalist effort to transform America as well as big-name corporations at the center of major legal disputes in this nation today.

The group’s 2020 annual report reveals “cash contributions received from July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020.” Listed under the “$1,000,000 to $1,999,999” category are Facebook, Inc. and notorious progressive internationalist billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundations.

The “$550,000 to $999,999” column features two leading leftist “philanthropies,” the Ford Foundation and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. A look at the “$250,000 to $549,999” bracket turns up the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. In the “$100,000 to $249,999” setting, we find the Bank of America Foundation and Twitter. And in the “$25,000 to $99,999” section donors include Boeing, Capital One, the Charles Koch Institute, Citigroup, Google India, Intel China, and defense contractor Northrop Grumman.

Elsewhere in the report, Carnegie mentions that it has received “$1 million from the [Bill & Melinda] Gates Foundation” to help make “significant progress on its fundraising campaign” despite the coronavirus pandemic.

My, that is an awful lot of money pouring into Carnegie in one fiscal year.

It raises a question: Why is a sitting Supreme Court justice allowed to negotiate for an executive position with a think tank funded by these powerful corporations and organizations as he hears cases that come before him?

From Justice to Free Speech Foe

Facebook and Twitter donated their lavish amounts specifically in support of the Endowment’s “Partnership for Countering Influence Operations.” Protecting “democracy” and preventing the dissemination of “disinformation” on the internet are the prime directives of this initiative. You already know what that means.

Here’s Alicia Wanless, director of the Partnership, relishing Big Tech censorship of a class of people with particular political convictions on Jan. 19. Under the heading “Will Social Media’s Recent Actions Take the Far-Right’s Megaphone Away?” she writes:

“For the moment, yes. Banning far-right, radicalized Trump supporters from major social media platforms will undoubtedly shrink their audience sizes and reach. Zignal Labs reported a 73 percent drop in election misinformation on Twitter after the accounts of [then-President] Trump and some 70,000 of his supporters were taken down. But as the University of Washington’s Kate Starbird points out, it’s altogether too soon to make such claims of efficacy; it requires a solid baseline of misinformation beforehand, and counting keywords as this study did might not suffice as a reliable indicator for measurement.”

This is what Facebook and Twitter are funding and participating in at Carnegie. And so we have the stunning sight of a California Supreme Court justice jumping ship to head up an organization that seeks to further the throttling of political speech in this nation. And being handsomely remunerated for it.

A great number of Americans fully realize how deeply corrupt our elected officials have become in recent decades. Yet they still somehow cling to the notion that hallowed figures in judicial robes will protect them from the excessive outrages of this thoroughly compromised ruling political class. Sadly, a lot of people who think the courts are going to save them from a lot of things will be having their eyes opened over the next couple of years.
